When Faiths Collide by Ralph Filicchia
The story of a young man’s struggle with the Roman Catholic Church, his family, his friends, and eventually himself. This book reads like a novel and is filled with dialogue and debates with Jesuit priests and others as the main character searches for the truth, debating and arguing with both family members and members of the Catholic clergy. At times he loses his focus as he takes out his emotional frustrations on those with whom he debates. Why is he always angry? Why does he refuse to get close to others? He knows his Bible and yet the peace he searches for becomes more elusive.
This book makes an excellent evangelistic tool, as the way of salvation is clearly taught and explained through the book’s action. This is not the usual Christian inspirational book. Rather, it is the blunt and difficult story of one man’s journey from his church to the foot of the cross, and from self-doubt to self-realization. The debates with Jesuit priests at Boston College are unlike anything now in print. The author has lived this and he has been there. As in most things in life, there is no substitute for experience. Knowing the mind of the opposition comes from constant contact with the opposition, and not from taking a course on the subject.
